Story:

Rosehall Run is happy to welcome The Finisher back to our portfolio of small limited production wines. As the name implies, it is a great accompaniment to a lightly sweet dessert course or cheese plate, and equally enjoyable as a light aperitif with canapés or charcuterie. This wine is not fortified, but the balance of lower alcohol, higher sweetness, and bright acidity create a refreshing addition to a wine library.

Tasting Notes:

An inviting, aromatic nose of lychee and rose petals. A light honeyed introduction on the palate with flavours of poached pear and warm baking spices. Pairs excellently with light desserts such as peach cobbler, apple crisp, or panna cotta. Also a great match with blue cheese.

Vineyard:

The small, concentrated crop of Muscat Ottonel planted at the Rosehall Vineyard dates from 2004 and 2007 and totals 850 vines (about 2/3 of an acre). The Gewurztraminer was sourced from the Nedelko Vineyard on the Twenty Mile Bench and dates back to 1999.

Growing Season:

Our vineyard experienced a long, warm growing season in 2022 which allowed for perfect maturity and rich varietal expression. Prince Edward County was less affected by the late fall rains that plagued the Bench region. Extended temperatures below -20C in the Niagara area over the winter of 21/22 caused a serious short crop situation for the Niagara grape growers for the 2022 Vintage.

Harvest:

Harvest 2022 began earlier than expected as late September saw damp weather and certain varietals that were ready to be picked in a hurry. Yields were lower this season, especially compared to the bumper crop of 2021, but the quality of fruit proved to be outstanding. We enjoyed a smooth and relaxed harvest which allowed Dan and Lee to make some precision choices resulting in impeccable results in our wine.

Fermentation:

The two varietals, Gewurztraminer and Muscat Ottonel, were united in the press and co-fermented as cold as possible in a stainless-steel tank. Fermentation was halted when the desired alcohol/sweetness balance was reached.
