Winemaker’s Notes

Indigo is a selection of small lots from both the Rosehall Run estate as well as our “vineyard away from home”, Nedelko vineyard in the Twenty Mile Bench. This vintage was the first time we had access to the Riesling that is grown at Nedelko vineyards. Alongside the Riesling, Gewurztraminer from Nedelko vineyards was sourced, as the 2021 harvest was more conducive to use in sparkling wine. Done in Charmat method, meaning the base wine was made, and then a second fermentation took place in tank. The wine was then bottled under pressure. To optimally preserve aromatics, the base was completed and prepared for the secondary ferment in late April and then immediately bottled.

Tasting Notes

Graceful nose displaying perfumed floral notes, orange zest, and melon. Ever so slightly off-dry with notes of orange and melon. Refreshing with a surprisingly stayed finish, making for a wonderful summer sparkling wine.

Critical Acclaim:

“A riesling-gewürztraminer blend done in the Charmat method, this smells and tastes very much like riesling with its orchard fruit and petrol aromas, attractive and inviting. It's just off dry on the palate with sugar around 12 grams/liter, crisp acids, and fine, clean and sharp finish. Nicely balanced, lively and fresh, ready to enjoy - a nice example all in all. Tasted November 2023.” Score 89, John Szabo - WineAlign

“The label looks like 1976, makes its presence known and yet it could pass for the artwork of novelist Madeline Miller’s book cover, recommended front and centre at Indigo. Or a Led Zeppelin song so take your pick, either “Achilles Last Stand” or “Song of Achilles." No, it’s a modern day dry version of a Moscato d’Asti-esque sparkling wine set to 11.5 percent alcohol - so a step or two down from off-dry, not quite dry at 12 g/L of residual sugar. High end of Brut with proper acidity and plenty of fantasy. “Oh, to ride the wind, to tread the air above the din. Oh, to laugh aloud, dancing as we fought the crowds, yeah.Drink 2023-2024. Tasted November 2023.” Score 88, Michael Godel - WineAlign

“This pours bright medium deep lemon gold with large bubbles that create loose effervescence on the palate. The nose is soft but quite ripe with peachy fruit and subtle honey and wildflower. It is medium bodied, dry and fairly fruity but indistinct on the palate, with good length. A bit lemony on the finish. Tasted November 2023” Score 86, David Lawrason - WineAlign
