Tasting Notes (2014)

This wine shows delicate red berries and hints of earthy undertone on the nose; on the palate layered berry-plum, black tea, fresh herbs and toasty vanilla with a lively acidity, earthy minerality and a long lingering finish.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Our JCR Pinot Noir is very versatile, pairing nicely with hearty mushroom dishes, grilled salmon, game meat, duck breast or rack of lamb. Enjoy with charcuterie and varieties of semi-hard, medium-aged cheeses.

Critical Acclaim

“This light to mid-weight pinot has a lovely, lifted nose of well integrated cran-cherry fruit, florals, wet stone, toast and forest floor - really quite classic with County minerality in the mix. A bit meaty as well. It's sour-edged, juicy and quite intense on the palate with great acid equlibrium and fine tannin. Great minerality. The length is excellent to outstanding.” Score 92 David Lawrason, WineAlign.com

“A lovely Prince Edward County Pinot with aromas of sour cherry and tart cranberry. Smooth, supple and medium-bodied. Pair with roast chicken.” Score 91 Natalie MacLean, nataliemaclean.com

“The vintage steps out of a particular shadow and into bright light, exposing the JCR Pinot Noir with a particularly beautiful level of freshness and vitality. What has come before is not forgotten; the County tartness, the limestone preparation and the earthy red ochre fruit. But here is something other, something new, exciting and structured. The balance begins and ends on a seamless circle with no obvious demarcation point. The most elegant Rosehall Run Pinot Noir comes out of this 2013 and its level of poise should see it enjoyed now and for 10 more years easy. Drink 2016-2025.”  Score 91 Michael Godel, WineAlign.com

“A county pinot in the typical light, leafy, earthy spectrum of flavours, capturing both an oxidative - faded flower/pot pourri edge, with some peppery reduction, with notable compost flavours and toasted wood spice. What I like best about this wine is the texture, that light, silky structure from fine grained tannins and bright but ripe acids, like tightly strung raw silk. The finish lingers nicely, too. Drink or hold until the end of the decade.” Score 90 John Szabo, WineAlign.com

“This barrel-select, flagship Pinot Noir aged on fine lees in French oak hogsheads (about 60% new) for 17 months then bottled unfined. Savory herbs, mineral notes, earthiness and red berry fruit aromas abound. A medium-weight, beautifully balanced river of red currant, red cherry and juicy black plum flavour bathes the palate garnished with charred toast. There’s good structure from friendly ripe tannin, persistent, pure ripe-fruit flavour with deft balance and a lengthy, tang-laden finish.” Vic Harradine, winecurrent.com

“An elegantly spiced, peppery pinot noir with appealing floral notes and spot-on varietal character. Notes of black and red cherry, a touch of leather, dried mint and tomato leaf are nicely expressed on the rather complex palate. Tannins are youthful but unobtrusive and the length is excellent. Reflective of the delicate and intricate Prince Edward County style of pinot noir.” Score 90 Sara d’Amato, WineAlign.com
