JCR Pinot + JCR Chardonnay Win GOLD at The National Wine Awards

Rosehall Run is pleased to announce that our 2016 JCR Chardonnay "Rosehall Vineyard" and 2016 JCR Pinot Noir "Rosehall Vineyard" both took GOLD at the National Wine Awards this spring in British Columbia.

The 2016 vintage is memorable for its hot, dry summer that resulted in a vintage of exceptional purity and phenolic ripeness.

These are the first premium wines to be produced with fruit from our Rosehall Vineyard since 2014 following the devastating killing frost of 2015.

Praise for the 2016 JCR Chardonnay Rosehall Vineyard

“The top Rosehall chardonnay is from maturing estate vines. It shows quite lovely aromas of ripe peach, corn, custard, peat smoke, hazelnut and and spice. It is medium weight, lively with tartish lemon acidty yet ripe and sweet-edged. There is some richness due to the warmer 2016 vintage. Excellent length; very good complexity.” Score 91 David Lawrason, WineAlign.com

“This JCR bottling of Chardonnay from the warm 2016 vintage was fully fermented in 500 L oak puncheons. It was aged in 60% new oak, a mix of tight French and Extra-Tight Caucasus Mountain wood for 16 months sur lie with minimal batonnage. It has a highly mineralized and complex nose of apple, vanilla toast, river rock, pear and integrated spice notes. Incredible how fresh this wine is on the palate considering the heat that summer and fall. The flavours of rich apple and pear with citrus accents are intense but well integrated with just the right amount of spice and mineral notes through the vibrant finish. A beautiful Chardonnay that speaks to the terroir of The County. Bravo! Score 92 Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com

Praise for the 2016 JCR Pinot Noir Rosehall Vineyard

“What a lovely aromatic display here, with lifted sour red cherry fruit finely infused with herbal, spicy, dust and vanillin elements. Very pretty! It is light to medium bodied with some initial creaminess of texture, then some alcohol and tannin roughing up the finish. Earthier/dried wood notes come on towards the finish. The length is very good to excellent. Give it another year or two. Complex and elegant.” Score 91 David Lawrason, WineAlign.com

“Such a beautiful nose of fresh crushed cherries, rhubarb, raspberry, bramble, minerals and perfectly harmonic spice notes. It has bright and penetrating red fruits and wood spice on the palate and shows depth, complexity and concentration through the finish, yet maintains freshness to the end. You can cellar this lovely Pinot for 3+ years.” Score 92 Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com
